Medsphere CEO brings knowledge of Open Source Technologies to SugarCRM, Customer Relationship Management solutions

SugarCRM Inc., provider of Sugar Suite, a commercial, open source customer relationship management solution that manages sales, marketing, and service customer interactions, announced today the appointment of Larry Augustin to the SugarCRM Board of Directors. The addition of Mr. Augustin will position SugarCRM for rapid growth as the leading open source application provider.

Mr. Augustin is currently CEO of Medsphere, a fully integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) company that enhances the quality, safety, and efficacy of health care delivery. Previously, Mr. Augustin was a Venture Partner at Azure Capital Partners concentrating in software, systems, and related IT infrastructure technologies. Prior to Azure, Mr. Augustin founded VA Linux (now VA Software), where he served as CEO and led VA Linux to an initial public offering (IPO) that set the record for the largest first day gain ever in an IPO. In 2000, Worth Magazine named him one of the Top 50 CEOs in America.
Known as one of the early innovators in bringing open source technologies to the commercial market, Mr. Augustin helped coin the term “Open Source” and was the visionary behind SourceForge.net, the largest open source development site on the Internet.
Mr. Augustin currently serves as a board of director member for VA Software, the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), Linux International, JBoss, and Linux Mark Institute. Mr. Augustin holds Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University, as well as a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
