Benioff to deliver keynote at 52nd annual awards dinner
SAN FRANCISCO (October 07, 2010) – Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM), the enterprise cloud computing (http://www.salesforce.com/cloudcomputing/) company, today announced chairman and CEO Marc Benioff is TechAmerica’s David Packard Medal of Achievement 52nd Award recipient. Benioff will be the keynote speaker at TechAmerica’s David Packard Medal of Achievement and Innovator Awards 52nd Annual Dinner on October 11, 2010 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Silicon Valley, California.
Benioff is being honored for his pioneering work in cloud computing and his significant lifetime contribution to the high-tech industry. Under Benioff’s direction, salesforce.com has grown from a groundbreaking idea into a publicly traded company that is the leader in enterprise cloud computing. Not only has Benioff changed the landscape of enterprise computing, he has had a significant impact on corporate philanthropy with the unique 1/1/1 integrated corporate philanthropy model where 1% of a company’s time, 1% of its equity and 1% of its products are given forward to the community. This model has been adopted by hundreds of companies globally including Google, Model Metrics and FinancialForce.com. In addition, the Benioff family has given a personal donation of $100 million for the construction of the UCSF Children’s Hospital at Mission Bay in San Francisco.
Benioff has written three books; two on philanthropy, Compassionate Capitalism and The Business of Changing the World, which demonstrate the deep interdependency between businesses and local communities and reveal how every company can incorporate philanthropy into its business model; and Behind the Cloud, which chronicles how salesforce.com grew from a start up into the world’s fastest growing software company in less than a decade.
TechAmerica’s David Packard Medal of Achievement and Innovator Awards began in 1959 to honor significant lifetime contributors and pioneers of the high-tech industry. David Packard played a major role in establishing technology as the industry for growth and change globally. Packard’s name and image are used to symbolize and reflect his innovative spirit and determination within the high-tech community. The Medal of Achievement, the highest honor of TechAmerica, is reserved for significant lifetime contributions to the high-tech industry, society, and humanity of both the past and future.
