Amdocs Demonstrates Best-in-Class Benchmark Results for 220 Million Subscribers, Integrating Real-Time Charging and Service Control Platform (SCP)

Industry’s first performance benchmark of integrated network and business support systems; proves carrier-grade performance and reliability with reduced cost of ownership on IBM systems

BARCELONA, Spain (February 29, 2012) –  At Mobile World Congress 2012, Amdocs (NYSE: DOX), the leading provider of customer experience systems, today announced best-in-class results for the communications industry’s first benchmark to report the performance of integrated real-time charging and SCP (service control platform) software on open (e.g. non-proprietary), cost-effective, hardware systems. The benchmark demonstrated support for 220 million prepaid and postpaid customers, the largest benchmark customer base ever reported.

The benchmark ran Amdocs’ Convergent Charging and SCP products on IBM BladeCenter™ servers and IBM Storwize® Unified Storage Systems at the IBM Telecommunications Infrastructure Center for Business Support Systems in Montpellier, France. The benchmark achieved groundbreaking performance, reliability and cost-efficient scalability. These results translate into a better end-user experience and substantial cost savings for the service provider.

The Amdocs Convergent Charging product is based on Amdocs’ innovative Turbo Charging technology and performs real-time rating and account balance management with a single charging engine, supporting all lines of business, service types, customer types and payment methods. Amdocs Convergent Charging integrates with Amdocs SCP, which manages service and credit authorizations in real-time.

“Service providers today understand the importance of integrating network and BSS capabilities to monetize new services and deliver a differentiated customer experience,” said Rebecca Prudhomme, vice president of product and solutions marketing at Amdocs. “Amdocs delivers on this through the integration of our SCP and real-time convergent charging engine. This benchmark validates the ability of our integrated approach to support the largest service providers in the world using cost-effective, commercial hardware systems.”

The benchmark demonstrated the following business benefits:

  • Proven reliability and stability to support real-life, complex price plans: Scenarios included stepped and tiered rating based on duration, volume and time of day for prepaid, postpaid and real-time postpaid events. 37 billion events were processed during 48 consecutive hours.
  • Carrier-grade performance: 435 million busy hour call attempts (BHCA) measured for a customer base of 220 million, comprised of 184 million prepaid customers and 36 million postpaid customers.
  • Reduced total cost of ownership (TCO):  Benchmark was performed on the smallest footprint of cost-effective, commercial, hardware systems ever reported to process 37 billion prepaid and postpaid events running simultaneously. Only 12 IBM BladeCenter HS22V servers were required for Amdocs Convergent Charging, and an additional 8 were required for Amdocs SCP. Four IBM System x3850-X5 data base servers were used in conjunction with IBM’s Storwize® V7000 Unified Storage. Benchmark ran using Linux Red Hat operating system.
  • Real-time experience for all customers, prepaid and postpaid: Low latency of less than 4 milliseconds achieved for 99 percent of the data events, reducing data event handling time.
