    ACT! 2008 is good for some... but there's better options available

    I used Sage Act! 2008 for about 6 months before I switched companies. We were originally using SugarCRM, but ran into so many problems that we made the switch to Act!2008. While this was an improvement, it wasn’t without its problems. The first problem was that the software was On-Premise, meaning that an employee could easily copy the database and walk off with it after they quit. The Bigger issue I had, was that the system had ridiculously slow load times. Even using a powerful computer didn’t help. Doing anything from searching through contacts to adding a new task would result in delays in my productivity because the dumb software would freeze. Additionally, installation was a pain in the ass and took forever. However, the biggest plus to this system is that it was very easy to use. The interface was intuitive and it offered a good amount functionality for a contact management solution. ACT! 2008 also had a huge partner network that made getting assistance fairly easily when I ran into problems with the software.

    While ACT!2008 may work for some smaller businesses, I recommend opting for a cloud or web based solution. Having guaranteed uptimes and accessibility from anywhere is just a necessity these days and makes ACT!2008 an outdated system.

    ACT! CRM is an absolutely terrible solution. It is extremely slow, crashes frequently, and incurs constant errors. I remember upgrading to 2009 just so that I could acquire another few months of technical support. It seemed as if the upgrade cost would be somewhat sensible, considering their crappy support charges by the minute. However, it wasn’t and now I am looking into getting my database converted–notes being my biggest issue–and I don’t care how expensive the conversion may cost, or even If I have to take the time to retype all of my notes. I actually hate this program, and will literally toss it out of my window as soon as possible. Trust me, search for an alternative CRM solution. If you can handle a bit of effort, try creating a database on filemaker or outlook.

    Sage ACT! CRM software is working really well for my small business. It gives you everything you need to run a small business efficiently and effectively for a reasonable price- unlike some of the bigger CRM vendors out there. Sage ACT! CRM really helped me gain deeper, more thorough understanding of my individual clients. For each contact, it allows you to attach personalized notes, detailed contact history, relevant files, call records, and details of their online presence in social media outlets for tracking purposes. Not only does the CRM help you research and gain sales opportunities, but also allows you to track them through the sales process. ACT! CRM really helped my business become more organized internally and efficient. Once you are used to it, it’s a piece of cake to use. I’m definitely seeing the benefits of Sage ACT! CRM- check it out if you are looking for a reliable, affordable, effective CRM solution.
